Podium finishes for Michael Gibbons (OC 2015)
In the past few months, Michael has been smashing his way to the top of the Sports 2000 championship.
In Hockenheim, Germany, he gained podium finishes in all three races, winning the first two and coming second in the third.
Racing his MCR S2, he qualified for the first race in pole position despite the wet conditions. With an average of 149km/h for his first race, he crossed the line a huge 17 seconds in the lead.
Following the success of the first race, he started his second race in pole position, but drama ensued as his throttle stuck open taking a corner. He managed to resolve the issue and unstick the pedal but his lead gap had closed up. “After what felt like the longest lap of my life, I was able to bring the car to the finish in the finish in first place, and in one piece, another fantastic result”.
He was passed for the lead in the final race, but managed to hold on to second place to secure his lead in the championship in the Sports 2000 series.
Michael featured in the Surrey Mirror paper having picked up two more wins, with two fastest lap times, for the championship in June at Thruxton, the fastest track in the UK.
Good luck Michael for the next race in the Sports 2000 series on 6 July 2019 at Oulton Park in Cheshire!
