Obituary: Douglas Michael Gold

Douglas recently passed away after a wonderful 94 years. He attended Mottrams/Caterham and the senior school from 1938 until 1947. Douglas was an avid rugby player and fan for his whole life and it’s been comforting to see him in his school team photographs.

After his National Service all of his working life focused on Agriculture based in Malaysia and the World Bank in Washington DC. He retired in 1984 in Burpham West Sussex, a tiny village outside Arundel, surrounded by all the agriculture of the South Downs.

He leaves his sister, Rosemary, who herself worked at Mottrams in the catering department eventually marrying a master, Richard Rottenbury, and two daughters, Deborah and Jennifer.
