CSS INSIGHT EVENING – CHANGE & CLIMATE

Award nominated professional networking evenings sponsored by the Old Caterhamians’ Association

This Insight Evening will explore how individuals, companies and societies cope with change, and how they can embrace and benefit from it. We will explore why humans’ resist change, even in the face of clear evidence indicating that change is necessary – using climate change and its consequences as an example. Cafe-style networking with our esteemed panel of experts from across change and sustainability roles will follow the keynote speech.

Keynote speakers: Almuth McDowall, Professor of Organisational Psychology

Almuth is an award winning researcher having recently been recognised for her work on the ‘always on culture’ by the Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development. Almuth combines an active career in academia with a portfolio of consultancy activities including consultancy with the Metropolitan Police and the NHS. In her consultancy Almuth’s key aim is to use and advance practice through the use of psychological theory for the benefit of people and organisations.

Gareth Llewellyn, Chief Executive DVSA, Fellow, Cambridge Institute of Sustainability  

Gareth has held global executive roles with National Grid and Anglo American winning a number of international awards for his work on responsible business practices and safety. As a non-executive director Gareth floated the waste management company Biffa plc and established the DfT’s Renewable Fuels Agency. More recently he was Executive Director at Network Rail where he was instrumental in changing the culture of the organisation.

Clare is leading the culture transformation at the John Lewis Partnership which builds on the much loved Waitrose & Partners and John Lewis & Partners brands; introducing new ways of working, behaviour and mindset shifts to create a more flexible and responsive business that builds on its reputation, continuing to delight customers through innovative product and services.

Claire Dunn – former Head of Corporate Development for the Carbon Trust

Breadth of experience includes investment in early stage low carbon technologies and advising corporates on a strategic response to climate change.

Clive Furness OC – Director, Contango

Senior Business Leader, Board Advisor, Financial Technology and Business Risk Expert, guiding organisational transformation for ambitious SMEs to drive profitability. Clive is adept at advising business and governments towards the economic benefits of changing markets and behaviours to their benefit. Clive has a particular interest in overcoming resistance to change to ensure advances for both individuals and business.

Olivia Garren – Founder, 3E Assessment

Olivia Started her career in Management Consultancy with Accenture focusing on the change management aspects of large IT systems implementations and transformations for Media and Entertainment companies.  In 2008 she branched out into sustainability, training as an Energy Assessor and starting up a sustainability consultancy focusing on improving energy and water efficiency and sustainable sourcing for the Hospitality industry.  Since then, Olivia’s business, 3E Assessment has focused on energy efficiency consultancy for domestic and commercial properties and she has been awarded the ‘National Energy Efficiency Champion’ award at the Energy Efficiency Awards in 2018.

Robin Gwynn, Director, Whyteleafe Solutions focused on strategic & commercial opportunity & risk across Africa.

Previously senior British diplomat specialising in Africa, with 25 years’ track record in policy-making, negotiating and operational delivery at the heart of government in the UK and overseas. Twice appointed to represent the UK as a London-based Special Envoy leading UK efforts on behalf of climate vulnerable countries, and working for peace between Sudan and South Sudan.
