Bicentenary Celebrations |
Caterham School has changed momentously over the course of the last two hundred years. In that time, the School has worked hard to achieve and maintain its position at the forefront of education in the United Kingdom. This would not have been possible had it not been for the numerous people who have, through their generosity, assisted the School in fulfilling its aims. We are hugely grateful to benefactors such as Sir Olliver Humphreys, Albert Maggs, Arthur Burns, W. J. Young and Stephen Bonarjee whose gifts to the School resulted in significant improvements to the School campus. Also to the hundreds of Old Caterhamians who contributed to the appeals which funded the purchase of Mottram (now the Pre-Prep School) and the building of the Leathem Pavilion, the Memorial Hall and the Centenary Archway. In addition, the Parents Association and many other individual donors have contributed significantly to the building of new facilities, the renovation of existing premises, and the provision of bursaries. We offer our sincere thanks to those who have invested so generously in the past to create the magnificent school we have today.
Now, as we reflect on the School's remarkable journey so far, and look ahead to the next 200 years, we are asking members of the School community to once again consider investing in the Caterham School.
As part of the Bicentenary commemorations the School is seeking to increase its bursary provision to widen access and thereby ensure that as many children as possible are able to enjoy a Caterham education, regardless of their background and financial circumstances. In addition, a number of projects have been commissioned to upgrade the fabric of the school and improve the resources available to students. The pavilion will be re-developed and a modern, multi-purpose facility will be created for the benefit of both sport and the wider school community. Additionally, much of the School's written archive will be digitalised to provide on-line research material for students and those interested in the School's journey from its humble beginnings in 1811. Finally, a Quiet Garden will be established near Home Field for all to enjoy.
We would like to appeal to you all to contribute to a development fund that will invest in Caterham's future. That fund - the Caterham School Trust (formerly known as the Old Caterhamians' Trust) - will seek, with your support, to award more bursaries for pupils in financial need, to undertake a number of key building projects and to enhance the overall educational experience of current pupils at the School.
We would encourage as many of you as possible to give a donation
to the fund, however small. A one-off gift or giving on a monthly
or annual basis is hugely valuable to us – especially
if relevant Gift Aid declarations are made.

In addition – we would like to be able to include a plaque in the new pavilion highlighting all those who have made a significant contribution towards the pavilion renovation fund. If you would like to support that or any other project then please get in touch.
